Reading a book and doing a craft (1/9/2010)

 My Dadima Wears a Sari

From the woman substituting for lakhsmi - my name is mamatha

Wow! I had a lot of fun teaching today. to those that couldn't make it we read a book called 'My dadima wears a sari'. and then we painted using long strips of paper - in the hopes of creating something that looks like a sari. :)

I think that the kids had fun, and that the parents were not too bored.

I want to thank the parents who did come today. You guys were wonderful and so helpful, to this newbie teacher. Thank you, Thank you! You are awesome.

You can see the pictures from today's class at facbook. Click here.

10/31/09 - Halloween

Dear Parents,

It was wonderful to see all the children in their Halloween costumes last Saturday. I have attached the pictures I took and will let other parents send theirs to this group.

Last class we completed our last National Symbol of India (Flower - Lotus). We also distributed an outline map of India with separate pieces (5 or 6) that need to be pasted on the outline map. Please make sure that this is complete and bring this to the next class.
Starting this Saturday, we will focus on Dances of India. We will start with the state of Kerala (use the map, so the children can associate the state to the dance) and color a Kathakali dancer. I will also bring a DVD, so the children can see the dance.
As you can see that we have established a theme, I would like your help in gathering information and sending it my way. Also looking for ideas on how we can make this more fun for our kids - for example when we do Bhangra - we can have the kids dance to some Bhangra music, etc..

Always open to your suggestions..
Regards,
Lakshmi
